Spring 2008
Earth Day - Saturday, May 3, 2008. "Honor Mother Earth" is the theme for this 3rd annual Earth Day to be held from 10am to 3pm, rain or shine. Earth Day is co-sponsored by the Acton Recreation Department & St. Matthew's Church Green Team. Topics range from conservation and wildlife to advice on "green living" and how we can all help reduce greenhouse gas emissions. PIP will showcase the solar project and demonstrate energy conservation for families.
At Earth Day, you can order our PIP reusable bags. Help the environment and support Acton PIP with earth-friendly PIP bags for $5.00 each. The reusable oversized grocery bag is great for shopping, a day at the beach, a trip to the library or an everyday tote. Order your PIP bag here. new!

Summer Math Skills Sharpener is a series of 13 separate books (grades K-12) that review the mathematical concepts learned in the just completed school year. Consult your child's teacher if you have concerns about appropriate skill level, but generally, you order "Grade 1" if your child just completed grade 1. The books are designed to work with any school curriculum to prepare students for the next level. For more information about the Summer Skills series including a grade-level overview and sample pages, visit www.summerskills.com.
Summer Skills Sharpeners were identified as a resource several years ago by an educator in the Acton Public Schools and have been recommended by local math tutors as supplementary materials. Since then, many families have found Summer Skills books to be fun and useful tools for summer math practice. Summer Skills Sharpeners are based on the National Curriculum Standards and are not designed to supplement any specific math curriculum. Summer Skills resource primers are also available for Language Arts and Spanish or French Language review.
