PIP Events, Grades K through 6

Market Math
Every spring, Acton PIP and Roche Bros. of Acton present two Market Math Mania events at Roche Bros. Supermarket—one for 3rd grade students, the other for 5th grade students. Both events feature an extravaganza of hands on "super" market activities, complimented by samples, give-a-ways, and tons of fun. Market Math Mania is designed to help children better understand how classroom math concepts apply to the "real world." See the Market Math page for details.

Star Party

The Star Party for 4th grade families is a spring event that ties in with the 4th grade science curriculum. PIP collaborates with Acton Under the Stars and the Acton Public School System to bring 4th grade families a starry night. Two top astronomy features include a visit with Galileo and stargazing with Amateur Telescope Makers of Boston (ATMoB). Acton Under the Stars also sponsors a town-wide Star Party. See the Star Party page for details.

Green Projects
Acton PIP supports green initiatives including Earth Day and the GreenActon team. Earth Day is a community-wide spring event that focuses on conservation. Find out what your family can do to help conserve and protect our precious water and natural resources. Appropriate for all ages. The GreenActon team is a volunteer organization encouraging sustainable townwide initiatives. See the Green Projects page for information on Earth Day and the GreenActon team.

Solar Projects
PIP joins the Acton Solar Panel Project in encouraging alternative energy education and environmental awareness among young people. In collaboration with the Acton Public Schools and the Acton-Boxborough School System, PIP is working on educational initiatives for students to learn more about the town's solar panel, data collection and energy consumption. Appropriate for all grades. See the Solar Projects page for details and links to the solar data.

Other PIP Events
Family Domino Night is a winter community-wide event and fundraiser. Join PIP volunteers at O'Natural's Restaurant. We'll bring dominos and instructions for Domino Math games. Domino Math games are a simple, inexpensive, fun way for students from first grade through high school to practice estimation skills and number facts. Younger children can play addition and subtraction games; advanced students can play multiplication and division games or experiment with equations. Appropriate for all grades. See the Other PIP Events page for details.

PIP Resources

Many of our PIP Events including Market Math, Star Parties and Domino Night have handouts and games for at-home entertainment. See our PIP Resources for links to those handouts in pdf format.

Acton PIP also lends math books and science kits and games. These library resources are available at the lending and reference sections of the Acton Public Library and the Douglas School Library.
