Science Fairs

Save the Date
Every two years, AB PIP STEM hosts a reverse Science Fair called DiscoverSTEM in November.

DiscoverSTEM is a showcase of interactive Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math activities for students in grades 7 through 12 plus adults. During the Open House, engineers, scientists and techies team up with student volunteers to showcase products, services, ideas and inventions and share their passion and knowledge for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.

The biennial event is held from 6:00 to 8:30pm at Acton-Boxborough Regional High School and culminates in a raffle with fantastic prizes.

Typically about 35 vendors share their technology. Students can opt to volunteer and team up with those vendors or just visit the stations and learn about STEM topics ranging from biomedical science to robotics.

During the last DiscoverSTEM, AB PIP collaborated with Musketaquid Center for the Arts to present a Science, Technology, Engineering, ART, Math (STEAM) exhibit.  Find out more about the vendor lineup from the last DiscoverSTEM 2013.

Science Family Night
Every November, the AB Science Team hosts a Science Family Night. AB PIP STEM endorses Family Science Night and encourages participation.

At Family Science Night, high school students from the ABRHS Science, Environthon, iGEM and Resource Force Teams present fun and interactive science activities to elementary-aged students who live in Acton and Boxborough. This year's activities included electronics, biology and computer science to name a few.

A couple of hundred people attended last year's event and watched the high schoolers teach the elementary students how to:
  • Extract DNA from cells
  • Identify ancient fossils
  • Design a mini-catapult
