Welcome to the Acton PIP Web Site!
We hope everyone had a good start to the 2006-2007 School Year!
A special welcome to those who are new to the Acton PIP E-Loop! PIP is pleased to announce that Latha Swaroop will serve as one of three PIP Tri-Chairs—focusing on Elementary PIP programs—along with Carlie Krakoff (Junior and Senior High and student volunteers) and Karen Herther (general PIP, planning), Lorrie Jacobsohn as PIP Secretary, and Janice M. Ward as Webmaster. PIP has representatives from all of the Acton and Boxborough Schools and the community at large. PIP meetings are usually held at 9:30am the first Friday of each month (except March) at O'Naturals Restaurant in Acton; check out the calendar for details.
The calendar also lists the latest Acton PIP initiatives supporting Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education in grades K-12. Our fall activities include the Junior High Star Party, Skid School, and Entertainment Book Fundraiser. Peak ahead at our winter schedule and plan for Domino Math Night, the MIT Women's Engineering Initiative, 3rd Grade Market Math, the 4th Grade Star Party, and the Annual Family Skate. The spring brings 5th Grade Market Math, Earth Day, and the Summerskills Book fundraiser (grades k-12). PIP events are often reported in the Acton Beacon and Acton Weekly; see Acton PIP in the News for a recap.
PIP fundraising helps us purchase supplies for our events, allows us to sponsor "Galileo" at the 4th Grade Star Party, and lets us offer a PIP ABRHS Scholarship to a graduating Senior... in support of STEM education! PIP relies on the generosity of volunteers and donations from the community to continue to offer its activities.
Acton PIP encourages parent and high school volunteers. Junior and senior high school students can get community service credit for volunteering at any PIP event. Join us! E-mail actonpip@yahoo.com to volunteer!
Thank you!
