Events
Market Math
Every year, we sponsor two Market Math events at the Roche Bros. Supermarket in Acton—one for 3rd graders; one for 5th graders. MM features hands-on "super" market activities, showing how classroom math applies to the "real world."
Nature Walks
In the spring and fall, AB STEAM hosts Nature Walks for students in grades K-6 accompanied by a parent. Siblings are welcome to this afternoon event, guide by Tom Tidman from the Acton Natural Resources Dept.
Family Math Games
Family Math Games is an indoor winter event at the Boxborough Sargent Memorial Library for all grades, K-12. AB STEAM student volunteers teach Domino Math, Sudoku, KenKen and paper-based coding games.
Star Party
The 7th grade Star Party is a spring astronomy event. AB STEAM, Acton Under the Stars and the AB Regional Schools sponsor a visit from Galileo and stargazing with Amateur Telescope Makers of Boston (ATMoB).
Night of Code
The Night of Code is a fun-filled introduction to computer science through games and activities from code.org for students from grades 3 through 5. This event coincides with Computer Science Education Week and is usually held at the RJ Grey Junior High Library.
DiscoverSTEM
Every two years, we sponsor a Discover STEM event. Discover STEM is a reverse science fair, geared for students in grades 7 through 12. Scientists and technologists from the community set up booths at the high school to share the latest technology.
STEM Book Club
In the winter, we hold a STEM book club discussion at the Discovery Museum for teens and adults. Past titles include How We Got to Now: Six Innovations that Made the Modern World, Last Child in the Woods, How to Think Like Leonardo Da Vinci, and Letters to a Young Scientist.
Physics of Driving
In the fall and spring, we partner with Drive In Control to offer Advanced Safe Driving classes for teens and adults. Drive In Control offers hands-on techniques for mastering accident avoidance and car control while teaching students about real-world physics.
